What does it take to be a King? Boris Johnson famously articulated his ambition to be ‘World King’ at an early age; the media is currently talking of Andy Burnham’s coronation (as Prime Minister, not King – Long live King Charles!)
But what does it take to be a King? I’m not sure ‘the desire to be King’ should be on the list. Douglas Adams appositely quipped ‘anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job’.
So what does it takes to be a King? Ancient Israel demanded a King of their prophet-leader (Samuel), and God gave them Saul. Oops. Saul thought he was King and acted accordingly, and God rejected him.
Instead, God found a ‘man after his own heart’ (1Sam13:14 and Acts13:22)
But what does that look like?
Over the next few weeks, we’re going to be looking at King David and how being ‘a man after God’s own heart’ revealed itself in his life.
We too must be men and women ‘of God’s own heart’ as we follow Jesus, the Son of David, the true and coming ‘King of Kings’.
