On the A44 between Rhayader and Kington, there is a signpost for Llandegley Airport. But if you follow the directions you won’t find the airport because it doesn’t’ exist – it never has. The owner of the sign says it’s a bit of a joke, and that a sign is just a sign. Except that’s not what we’re used to signposts being – and, apparently, there’s no law requiring signs to point to what they say.

Of course, you don’t have to follow a sign – you may not want to go where the sign points. But if you want or need to go there, what do you say to a sign that takes you somewhere else?

John the Baptist was a sign, faithfully pointing to the Messiah, the saviour, to Jesus Christ. It’s hard being a sign standing up in the wind and rain, but if anyone is looking for a saviour, a faithful sign may be the very thing they need.
