If you were living under God’s blessing, what would it look like?
You might think of a long and healthy life, perhaps with family and children and grandchildren; or (and!) living free from want – food on the table, warm fire in winter and cool breeze in summer. You might think purpose fulfilled – an invention, an insight, to have ‘loved another with all my heart and soul’.
But what when life wanes, and all the turbulent passions calm? Would God’s Blessing be another year? And then another? And in life’s final ebb, is God’s Blessing a peaceful death?
These thoughts are too ‘this world’ centred, in contrast to Jesus’ focus on things above, and surely he lived under God’s Blessing! Which, for him wasn’t avoiding conflict or pain or having long life and grandchildren: it was Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
He talked about Life to the Full – Eternal Life. But what is Eternal Life? More than existing forever, It is “to know the One True God and Jesus Christ” (Jn17:3). So perhaps the greatest blessing is Knowing God – not facts about but relationship with.
So what does it look like to live truly under God’s Blessing?
