Word for the Week
- Resurrection is Vital!Last week, we saw that the resurrection of Jesus was one of the things “of first importance” in Paul’s message (1 Cor 15:3). This week, we see that it’s not just important intellectually – as a theological idea – it’s also absolutely vital to the Christian life. Take it away, and absolutely nothing about what we do makes sense. Without resurrection, there is no forgiveness, no hope of eternal life, no point being a Christian at all. Though lots of things about being a Christian might make us happy, at least in a temporary way, we are more to be pitied than envied. (1 Cor 15:17-19)That’s because Jesus’ resurrection wasn’t just for him. It was the preview of what he will do for all of us. It was even, ultimately, the guarantee that death, corruption and everything which opposes God’s good purpose for his world will be destroyed. Nothing could be more practically relevant, for us, for those we love, and for the whole world.Ed
