Word for the Week
- Test
I gave someone a test this week. I wasn’t trying to trip them up or catch them out – I genuinely wanted to know if they could do something, and if they could how they did it.
We sometimes shy away from tests. We don’t like being judged, we don’t like being found wanting, we don’t like to fail. But sometimes a test is the opportunity to show that we can, and sometimes one test is a challenge that leads to another, and we find that we learn and grow along the way.
So what would you say if God wanted to test your faith? Would you object or run away? Or would you do what God asks of you, in the same way you normally to?
In Hebrews 11, we find a catalogue of things people through the Bible-ages did because of their faith Why not read it?
James writes that ‘the testing of your faith produces perseverance’ (James 1:3), and I think perseverance is something worth having – as James goes on to say: ‘Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.’ (James 1:4).
