We are the Church of England parish of St Mary’s Shaw cum Donnington – just to the north and east of Newbury.
Our purpose and focus is Knowing Jesus, Sharing God’s Love, Caring for People.

- Life-Giving Confidence
I wonder whether we can all remember moments of clarity in our lives, when ‘the penny drops’ or you might say ‘the dew settles’. Confusion gets less foggy and a clear view appears.
My moment of understanding the significance of Jesus was in my teens and was for me a true turning point. Our journeys are all very different, and God may lead us on a slower and more meandering pathway! But one day we find ourselves in a new place and can look back. And then the adventure continues throughout our lives, always learning, unpicking complexity, and replanning, refocussing and so on.
In St Mary’s, we are embarking on a reflection led by St John, the ‘disciple Jesus loved’, by reading together his first letter to the churches. St John describes the immense privilege of being with Jesus in his travels and says ‘the Word of life appeared… the eternal life… who has appeared to us’.
I am excited to unpack the testimony of a first-hand witness. We are so privileged to have this opportunity. St John wants us to know LIFE in all its abundance and have confidence in God. Let’s journey together!
