Where would you rather be today?
If you could be absolutely anywhere in the world today, where would you choose to be? Maybe several options spring to mind: enjoying the great outdoors, relaxing at the seaside, fine dining at a Michelin starred restaurant, or perhaps by the side of a loved one.
If you put that question to our Psalmist this Sunday, he would undoubtedly say “the Temple in Jerusalem”. He says “my soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord” (Ps 84:2). He loves the temple so much that he is willing to say “Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere” (Ps 84:10).
But why does he love the Temple so much? Not for its beautiful architecture or storied history, but because it was where the presence of the Lord dwelt. Where might we seek the joy of the Lord’s presence today?
